Low Cost DataMatrix Verification
As we are very active in applications for the Verification of barcodes to ISO/ANSI standards, we are frequently asked about the verification of Matrix codes including Datamatrix. Generally, this has proven to be a very expensive problem with typical verifiers costing around $10,000, a hefty price for many companies. Fortunately we have a compromise which has proven to be acceptable to many of our customers.
Matrix codes are read by Area Imager scanners, which acquire the image in the field of view of the scanner and algorithmically extract the data. Our most popular scanner, the IT4600 operates in this manner. This scanner also has resident in its firmware a PQA, or print quality assessment which provides a grading of the quality of the code. Although not to ANSI/ISO standards it does yield a good assessment and has proven to be acceptable in many applications at a fraction of the cost.
